About Us.

FOD Foundation is a registered non-profit organization established to honor the memory of Funmilayo Olanike Danesi who died on Saturday afternoon, 13 August 2022 in Ibadan, Oyo State. The overarching purpose is to continue her fight against sickle cell disease on a global stage by ensuring that individuals and families affected by this disease receive the care, support, and resources they need to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.

Funmilayo Olanike Danesi

A courageous and resilient woman, fought bravely against the challenges of sickle cell disease throughout her life. Her unwavering strength, determination, and positive spirit inspired all those who knew her.

Biography

Funmi as she was fondly called was born on in Ibadan, Oyo state on 18 July 1973 and was diagnosed with sickle cell disease at a young age. She was the second child of five children of John & Lydia Oladiran.

Despite facing numerous health setbacks, Funmi always maintained a zest for life and refused to let her condition define her. She attended Alafia Primary School and Command Children School in Ibadan, Oyo state and did her Secondary School at St Louis Grammer School, also in Ibadan. She then went on to study Food Technology at Yaba College of Technology, Lagos. In 1998, she married TJ Danesi, and both have three healthy children.

Advocate and Inspiration

Funmi became an advocate for those living with sickle cell disease, using her own experiences to raise awareness and promote understanding. She shared her story with honesty and vulnerability to help others understand the impact of the disease and the importance of support and compassion.

Legacy

Funmi’s legacy lives on through the lives she touched and the positive change she brought to the sickle cell community in her immediate environment. Her incredible resilience, optimism, and determination serve as an inspiration to all those who face challenges in her lives.

Our Mission

At FOD Foundation, we aim to raise awareness of sickle cell disease and its impact on individuals and families. Our goal is to promote advocacy, education and provide health and welfare support to improve the lives of those affected by this disease.

To link and provide individuals with resources, tools and support needed for improved health.

To advocate for policy changes to improve treatment and care options for those living with sickle cell disease.

To provide emerging information on clinical trials, telehealth, new treatments available about this disease.

To promote holistic counseling and education services.

FOD Foundation

In Loving Memory of Funmi - A Sickle Cell Warrior who went over the rainbow bridge on  13 August 2022. Her fight for the welfare of people living with Sickle Cell Disease continues with this Foundation.
